Another one bites the... Citronella!!

Image
*This post may contain affiliate links for your convenience.* It's that time of the year... SUMMER!! YEAHHH! Holidays, staying out late, having dinner outside... and... mosquito bites!!! NOOO!! My girls make quite a reaction to mosquito bites, so we don't go anywhere at night without our Citronella Essential Oil or our little homemade bug spray. If you're enjoying dinner outside in the garden or patio, just get your diffuser out and add a few drops of citronella on its own or add a couple of drops of purification as well. I love using my Lantern Diffuser as it really complements any setting! If using a diffuser outside is not possible or you're not home, I just add a couple of drops to a piece of napkin or spray it on clothes. How to make your own bug spray: Adult version:* • 5 drops citronella • 5 drops peppermint • 5 drops rosemary • 5 ml witch hazel • 5 ml alcohol (or vodka) • spray bottle 30 ml * I usually like to add Lemongrass an...

Let's talk dilution...

Image
Yes, dilution! Most of essential oils/blends (whether they are Young Living or not) need to be diluted when applied topically . Why? Because they are very concentrated and very potent, and we advocate a safe use of EO, especially when talking about babies/children. A stronger or more potent dilution does not necessarily mean better results and it may lead to skin reactions. Some of YL oils say in the bottle they are already diluted and ready to use, like Endoflex, for example. But because I use it daily for my PCOS, I do a 50-50 dilution (50% Endoflex - 50% s weet almond oil or other of your choice). Basically, I get the same effect (tried and tested, it works well even if I do a 40-60 dilution, but not less than that) and this way a bottle of Endoflex lasts me longer (3 months)!! Let's check now a few handy tables. First and foremost, dilutions by age! Naturally, the dilution for a baby will be different to that of a grown up. There are very few safe EO for babies, but thi...

What carrier oils should I use?

Image
Like we've talked about before, we use the carrier oil to dilute the essential oil. Why? Because essential oils are highly potent and concentrated goodness and we need/should dilute it before applying it on the skin . Essential oils are volatile, which means they evaporate rapidly. Carrier oils do not evaporate or have a strong aroma, making them the perfect pair for diluting essential oils, thus reducing the concentration of the essential oil without altering its therapeutic qualities. When you dilute an essential oil with a carrier oil, you can control its concentration before applying. (We will be going through appropriate dilutions for each age on another post). Carrier oils can vary widely in their consistency, absorption, aroma, shelf life, and other characteristics. There are loads of carrier oils to choose from and they can be blended to change or combine their properties, so you can mix and match until you find the blend that’s just right for you! For just a normal d...
